Tips To Succeed At Becoming Healthier in 2016!


Every parent wants to be a role model for their children.  We all want our children to grow up to be happy and successful.  We also want them to be healthy.  Since our children learn habits from us, we need to make sure we are showing them what they need to be doing.  One of the best things we can do is show them how to be healthier. 

This is where you’re going to start to panic, because you’re having a hard time finding time to think and breathe let alone trying to figure out how to eat better and exercise.  The good news is that it won’t take a lot of time and the bigger bonus will be that you are going to be spending more time with your kids!

The first thing you will want to do is encourage your children to help you prepare the foods that you are eating.  Research shows that kids are more willing to try new foods if they actually help make them!  Brussell sprouts anyone??

The next step to your plan is a big one and may or may not be challenging, depending on what you have done in the past.  You need to take your children to the grocery store with you when you buy your food!  I know, I know, deep breath here.  This can be done and it is an excellent learning opportunity in many ways.  Yes, they will want everything in sight, especially the junk food, but stay strong and redirect them by reminding them of your goals of eating healthy foods.  They can see where their food is coming from, learn how to read labels and make the better choices of what types of foods they should be choosing.

Now that you’ve taken care of the food portion of this challenge, you can concentrate on the other half.  You need to work out and while it is difficult to find time to do this on a daily basis, it is necessary.  You will end up being stronger and feel much better.

The best way to exercise is to do it as a family and make it fun!  It can be as simple as dancing around your living room or running races around the outside of your house.  A few other ideas are listed below.

  • Go for a hike
  • Find a local swimming pool and have some fun swimming laps and playing Marco Polo
  • Go for a bike ride
  • Play a game of basketball
  • Kick around a soccer ball
  • Find the nearest playground and explore all of the equipment
  • Walk around the neighborhood

When you are exercising as a family, you do not need to spend a lot of money.  The only requirement that you need is to make the time to exercise every day. 

When you implement these ideas with eating healthy foods, you will be well on your way to being healthier and happier as a family.  Every mom wants to spend quality time with their family and this will make that one wish come true.  Now if only the wish of 5 minutes to relax could be achieved, life would be perfect!
